Reopening Spirit Lake Church

PLAN TO REOPEN SPIRIT LAKE SEVENTH-DAY Adventist Church

Spirit Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church is reopening on May 9, 2020 in compliance with stage 1 protocols for places of worship provided by the Idaho governor’s office (https://rebound.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/stage1-protocols-worship.pdf) and according to the guidelines of the Upper Columbia Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/cb7ff47b/files/uploaded/Guidelines-Church%20Reopening_final.pdf). COVID-19 has presented a medical threat that has caused Spirit Lake church to be closed to public assembly since March 21. Spirit Lake church is implementing the following protocols for the safety of our members and guests as we reopen to the public for worship on May 9.

Live-streaming provided: Beginning on May 9, anybody who chooses to worship from home can view our church services online at www.spiritlakesda.org. Anybody with a fever or other flu like symptoms needs to stay home and avoid public exposure. The elderly and people with compromised health conditions may especially wish to guard their health by staying home until the risk is lower. Anybody that would rather wait until the public health risk is lower is welcome to stay at home until they feel comfortable returning to church.

Sanitation Protocol: High-touch surfaces will be disinfected each week, including, but not limited to doorknobs, light switches, sinks and faucets, piano keys, microphones, audio board, and pulpit.

Minimizing Contact: In order to reduce contact between participants the church will for the time being:

  1. Allow members to pick up their own bulletin at the entrance.
  2. Remove hymnals from the pews and put words on the screen for song service.
  3. Replace passing the offering plate with a box where tithes and offerings can be placed.
  4. Discontinue fellowship meals until further notice.
  5. Encourage greeting without handshakes, hugs, or other physical contact.

Social Distancing: For the time being, the six-foot social distancing practices posted at stores and markets is needed at church as well. As you sit in the sanctuary on Sabbath, we encourage families to sit close together and to allow for appropriate distance between other families. The fellowship room will be setup with extra seating to allow more people to spread as they seat. We ask that large crowds do not gather in the church hallway before or after service. Please take your visiting and conversation outside or to other locations that provide more free space.

Facemasks: Nobody will be required to wear facemasks at church. But we welcome and appreciate those who wear them.

Sabbath School: Spirit Lake church is resuming our Sabbath Schools in our facility as well. Please respect the same social distancing in Sabbath School as church. Provision is being made for children to sit farther apart in Children’s Sabbath Schools and for items handled by children in Sabbath School to be disinfected with each use. Those who bring children to Sabbath School should prepare their children for some things to be different.

Rebounding Idaho: As Spirit Lake Seventh-day Adventist church participates in the early stages of rebuilding Idaho we pray for the safety and wellness of all those affected not only in our state, but in our country and around the world.
